Lisa Jo Stearns, MD

Born in OshKosh Wisconsin, Dr. Stearns is at her core a midwesterner as is evident in her intense work ethic. She attended the University of Nebraska receiving her Doctor of Medicine in 1991. She completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and continued on with a fellowship in pain management. In 2006 she was board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care. She is committed to educating patients, their caregivers, and health care professionals in the most effective pain management and supportive care techniques.

Dr. Stearns moved to Arizona in 1996 and was a consultant and partner with Valley Anesthesiology Consultants, Ltd. until 2007. Recent accomplishments include forming her own practice The Center for Pain and Supportive Care, PLLC. sponsoring the first annual cancer pain CME course at the 2009 Napa Pain Conference, and an appointment to the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine Anesthesiology faculty. She is actively involved in research with the sole purose of educating oncologists, nurses, cancer patients, and the public with respect to options in cancer pain management. Raising awareness that pain management can build a 'bridge back to life' is a primary focus in both her private practice and teaching efforts.

Her published works and ongoing research efforts are nationally recognized and she is much sought after as a consultant and speaker.

Dr. Stearns' work with organizations such as Interplast and Operation Smile has taken her to third world nations to teach local physicians various techniques in anesthesia, pain management and palliative care.

Her education and formal training complement her natural ability to diagnose and treat patients with empathy and a common sense attitude supports a 'help yourself' discipline.
